“I have fun first of all. It’s just a good way to blow off steam, relax,” said Caroline Brakeville.
“It teaches you a lot of responsibility. It’s not just about shooting a gun. It’s the principle. You have to have everything correct in what you do with your body, your set up, how you clean your rifle before you even get to the gun range,” Brakeville said.
That attention to detail has taken Brakeville, a Captain Shreve High School graduating senior, a long way. In fact, it’s taken her all the way to a rare shooting scholarship for college this fall.

“As a pitcher, I believe that if I step on the foul line while running onto the field, I won’t have a good game,” said Trenton Perot. “I’ve done it since I was thirteen.”
Reading about famous baseball players inspired Perot to adopt this rule. Another team player who’s all about superstitions is Anthony Stallcup.
“Before each pitch, I step out of the batter’s box and adjust my batting gloves,” Said Stallcup. “I also twirl my bat until the pitcher is about to throw.”

Before the school year began, Captain Shreve Principal Ginger Gustavson, and the teacher of the AP Capstone course, Amy Douglas, explained new coursework and how they are preparing for it.
Douglas said this class is designed to push her students out of their comfort zone and to a higher level.
“I have seen lots of growth in all of my students,” said Douglas. “At first, what I saw was papers that look a lot like book reports and what I am asking them is being an attorney getting ready for trial. You can’t just tell the information. You have to tell me is it credible, where did you get it from, was that source credible and do you agree with it.”
